2025 Community Impact Report
Building Trails. Strengthening Community. Inspiring the Future.
In 2025, our community showed what’s possible when passion, collaboration, and vision meet on the trail. From record-breaking events to landmark trail projects, this year marked a defining chapter in our evolution as Marin’s leading force for sustainable, community-focused mountain biking.
As we close out this transformative year, we’re thrilled to share the milestones your support made possible, and how your continued investment will elevate the future of mountain biking in Marin.
Major Accomplishments
Marinduro – April 30, 2025
Our signature fundraiser returned with unprecedented momentum. With 400 racers taking on a six-stage enduro, the only race of its kind in the Bay Area, Marinduro delivered our most successful fundraiser ever. Professional athletes, including WTB’s Marco Osborne and Becky Gardner, brought star power to a fired-up crowd of riders and fans.
The energy was electric, the podium unforgettable, and the message unmistakable: mountain biking in Marin is thriving. We can’t wait to take this success even further in 2026.
Solstice on Solstice Downhill – June 21, 2025
History was made this summer as we hosted Marin County’s first officially sanctioned downhill race. Thanks to our generous partners at San Domenico School, the Solstice Trail was transformed into a professional-grade race venue complete with RFID timing and a community celebration to match.
The event ran flawlessly, with no major injuries and nonstop smiles. Local riders finally had a chance to compete head-to-head on one of Marin’s only backyard black-diamond trails.
This was more than a race, it was a milestone for Marin mountain bikers and a model for future events.
Breaking Barriers Skills Clinics
This year we proudly launched the Breaking Barriers Skills Clinics in partnership with Marin County Parks at Stafford Lake Bike Park to expand representation and welcome new riders into the Marin cycling community.
More than 75 riders participated across four tailored sessions led by professional coaches and community mentors including:
Brian Astell (Trail Works) – Intermediate/advanced
Daniel Clemens – Beginner fundamentals
Emma Briggs (Endurance Explores) – Women’s clinic
Ranger Erick Morales (Marin County Parks) – Jump clinic
The clinics were free, accessible, and infused with community connection capped off by a celebratory BBQ generously supported by Golden Gate Meat Company and Bordenaves Bakery.
These clinics did more than build skills, they broke down barriers and helped ensure Marin’s trails reflect the diversity and energy of the riders who love them.
San Domenico Truck Trail Rehabilitation
In May, we completed a major, five-month reimagining of the historic Truck Trail at San Domenico School. Working twice a week with teams of up to 40 volunteers guided by our Pro Trails Crew, we redesigned and rebuilt this two-mile sustainable trail linking to Loma Alta.
The restored connection to the 680 Trail provides a much-needed alternative to notoriously steep routes and now benefits San Domenico’s running and biking teams as well as the wider Marin community.
Funded entirely by Marin Trail Stewards and supported by community sponsors, this project stands as a testament to our commitment to stewardship, partnership, and thoughtful trail design.
Caballo Rojo Trail – Permitting and Construction
A decade in the making, we achieved the long-awaited milestone of securing all permits for Caballo Rojo, a new downhill-only exit trail from the beloved Tamarancho network. After a year of intense collaboration and over $500,000 invested in engineering and permitting and with unwavering community advocacy, the project received its green light in August.
From there: game on.
Our Pro Trails Crew, powered by hundreds of volunteers, shaped the one-mile trail over 10 weeks with an additional $125,000 in funding.
Caballo Rojo is now fully built and permitted, an exhilarating, community-crafted flow trail that eases congestion, reduces downhill traffic on Iron Springs Road, and adds a dynamic new experience to Tamarancho.
The trail is now fully legal and open for your enjoyment. Go enjoy Marin’s newest purpose built downhill mountain bike trail!
Trail Stewardship Overview
Sustainable stewardship remains at the heart of our mission. In 2025, our Pro Trails Crew and dedicated volunteers maintained and improved more than 20 miles of trail at San Domenico, Tamarancho, Marin County Open Space, and across Marin Municipal Water District lands.
This year, we delivered:
3 miles of new or rehabilitated trail
5 new bridges replacing wet crossings
4,500 volunteer hours supporting high-quality trail building and maintenance
These efforts ensure Marin’s trails remain safe, sustainable, and accessible for generations to come.
Membership Program
Marin Trail Stewards is volunteer-led and powered by the generosity of donors and community sponsors. Last year we launched our sustaining Membership Program to help fund our Pro Trails Crew, an essential resource for the trail-building and stewardship our community relies on.
In just over a year, we’ve grown to over 300 sustaining members, a powerful foundation for a strong, stable, trail-supporting movement.

Our New Name
After two years of listening, reflecting, and engaging with our community, we asked a defining question:
Does “Access4Bikes” still reflect who we are today?
Founded in 1999 to focus on access and advocacy, the name served us well. But today, our work is so much more. We are trail builders, collaborators, environmental stewards, educators, and conveners.
To honor that evolution, and distinguish our identity from Access4Bikes Votes, we are now proudly Marin Trail Stewards. This name captures our mission, our values, and our promise: to build, maintain, and cherish Marin County’s singletrack, together with the community that loves it.
With renewed passion, strengthened partnerships, and deep gratitude, we ride into 2026 ready for what’s next.
Goals for 2026
We are aiming big and we need you with us.
Goal 1: Build and open the Saddlecut Trail, finally connecting Wagon Wheel Trail to B17 Trail in collaboration with Marin County Open Space.
Goal 2: Expand our Pro Trails Crew impact from 20 miles of stewardship to 35 miles.
Goal 3: Grow our Breaking Barriers clinics to serve 150 riders.
Goal 4: Reach 500 sustaining members.
Goal 5: Bring new world-class mountain bike races to celebrate our community and Marin’s unique mountain biking heritage.
These goals are ambitious and essential for a future of world-class singletrack and a resilient mountain biking community in Marin.
We can’t achieve them without you.
